What does SANARAS stand for?

The two SS you see in SANARAS stand for Sindy and Sinthu – both are the founder’s names. Sindy is predominantly used in the West and Sinthu more often in the East. It symbolises the strong connectivity between both worlds.

ANARA is an amalgamation of 3 Sanskrit words.

AN – Ananda = Joy

AR – Artha = Purpose

A – Aikyam = Harmony

The three As combined is your infinity triangle.

Be joyful, live your purpose and find harmony. Explore and live your boundless possibilities.

About The Founder

Hi, I’m Sinthujah, Sinthu or Sindy for short.

I am a Certified Coach and Psychologist as well as a Chartered Management Accountant with over 15 years of experience in the corporate world, specifically in Banking with Goldman Sachs in London and New York.

My Journey

Born in Sri Lanka and raised in Germany, I gained my qualifications in the UK. I have lived in 4 countries and am a passionate adventurer, who has travelled to around 50 countries exploring all corners around the world. From Ecuador to Syria, Cambodia to Kyrgyzstan, my travel destinations have never been the typical holiday destinations. I speak three languages fluently – English, German and Tamil and some Spanish to add to the mix. I can wholeheartedly say that my life has taken me to all corners of the world, which helps me understand and work with clients from all walks of life. I am passionate about meeting new people and exploring different cultures. I feel the highest level of joy when I can help people bring the best out in them and have a positive impact on their lives. Coming from a South Asian background, I wanted to make sure that I work hard and make my parents proud, who sacrificed a lot to provide me with better opportunities in life. I made choices that were the most ‘sensible’ and the least ‘risky’. I have always wanted to study Psychology, but I chose not to and ended up picking something that gave me a sense of security and financial stability. Working towards ticking off all the boxes in my life, I had reached a point, where I had everything, one could wish for. Then Covid hit and gave me a different perspective.

A turning point in my life

For the first time in a long time, I stopped running from A to B without a break. For the first time in a long time, I could actually take a break. The pandemic gave me an opportunity to stop, think and reassess my life. The world was going through a crisis, and what was I doing? How was I contributing to the world? I was in a safe bubble, working away… This couldn’t be it. There must be more to life. Even though I thought I had done all the right things in life, from getting the good grades to having a great career at the world’s best Investment Bank, there was a part of me that was not fulfilled. Something was missing. Just before the pandemic hit, I had completed a Mental Health First Aider course for adults that gave me a huge insight and appreciation for the challenges that people face with their Mental Health. So many were suffering in silence. The constant pressure to perform, the daily stress that we are exposed to, the office politics, coupled with the lack of time for ourselves and our families, caused a lot of distress and unfulfillment in people’s lives. Not only that, but it also impacted their mental and physical health to a point, where they could not perform at their best. It not only sparked my interest in this topic, but also created an inner need wanting to help people, who are struggling with these challenges. Lockdown gave me the opportunity to study something that I have always wanted to, combined with my recently discovered interest in Mental Health.

That missing piece

Without even thinking too much about it and only a couple of months into the lockdown, I had enrolled to do a Master’s in Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health at King’s College London, part-time. After literally just a few days into it, I knew this was it! This was the piece that was missing in my life. This was the extension of who I am, and I knew I found my calling. A lot of it came naturally to me. The joy I felt was almost indescribable. The more I learned, the more eager I became to share it with everyone I know, because I knew that with that knowledge, I could help people. Only then I understood what people meant when they said that “If you love what you do, you won’t have to work another day in your life”. For two years I was juggling a very demanding job at work and my studies. Working and studying day and night. I did not mind. I did not even notice. This is what it feels like when you have discovered your passion and found your purpose in life. It leads to endless joy. Endless joy that I want everyone to experience for themselves. Will you allow me to be part of your journey and find that missing piece?

How SANARAS was born

My dissertation was on the mind and body connection, more specifically on the bi-directional relationship between depression and diabetes. Both topics that are very close to my heart. I was fascinated by the power of the mind as well as its vulnerability that can lead to chronic illnesses. My research involved the study of various therapies and treatments that can help individuals prevent, manage and work through their physical and mental health challenges. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) grabbed my attention. A form of therapy that can help people suffering from depressive symptoms or anxiety, manage their thoughts and emotions better. A talking therapy that incorporates yoga, meditation, and breathwork.

A new beginning after an end

I realised that the end of my Master’s was only the beginning of my next chapter. After having learnt so much about all the benefits of yoga and meditation from research papers and books, I felt the urge to explore and experience it for myself. I left for Bali and spent a month there attending a yoga teacher training that taught me about the history, philosophy and the power of yoga. I thought I knew what yoga was about, since I was practicing it for over 15 years. Once a week, every Friday, in the gym, with different yoga instructors every time. I used to call it my ‘stretching class’. After all the hard-core training during the week, I needed that to set me up for the weekend. I had no idea what yoga really was, nor what it does to my body, let alone to my mind. What I learned very quickly was that yoga was not just a physical exercise as so many of us believe it to be. It is not about the fancy yoga pants, perfectly shaped bodies and crazy headstands. It is a lot more than that. It is a way of life. An ancient practice that originated in India thousands of years ago and simply means union of the mind, body, and soul. I was intrigued. We have all these very powerful tools and techniques available to us and have always had them. We have just not been told how to use them. After having completed my training and becoming a qualified yoga instructor, my next destination was clear.

Travel to learn

Next stop, India. I needed to go to the place, where everything started. I travelled to three different states in the southern part of India. I learned about the benefits of breathwork in an Ashram in Tamil Nadu. I then went to an Ayurveda clinic in Kerela and learned about Ayurveda, the science of life. It is a sister science of yoga and an ancient system of medicine that focuses on promoting good health applying a more preventative approach than a remedial approach. When treating an illness, it deals with the root cause of the problem instead of only treating the symptoms. There I learned about clinical yoga and how yoga can help heal some of the physical ailments of the body. I studied about Ayurvedic nutrition and about the impact food has on our emotions, our physical and mental wellbeing. I learned about the importance of understanding our body, our unique composition and understanding that there is no ‘perfect’ diet that meets all the requirements. There is no one size that fits all. Instead, we need to learn what’s good for us as individuals. What’s good for me, may not necessarily be good for you. In Mysore, I was deepening my yoga practice while exploring my physical limits. Are there any? When you put all the pieces together, you realise that everything is connected and that every component is critical for our health and performance. Physically, mentally, and emotionally. Finding and maintaining that balance is key. This is how SANARAS was born. A holistic approach that takes all these elements into consideration, when helping you reach your goals.

My Area of Expertise

My expertise lies in helping you discover your strengths, your passion, your untapped potential, and find a deeper meaning in life. There is so much potential in each and every one of us, waiting to be explored. Most of us may not even know that we have them. My focus areas are performance optimisation, transition, and wellbeing leveraging the power of the mind and body connection. I truly believe that all elements are connected and work strongly together. The mind, the body, and the soul. For us to perform at our best and at an optimal level, we need to dedicate the attention and care that all these elements deserve. There are very powerful techniques that I can share that will help you perform at your best across all these elements. I have coached and mentored many professionals in the corporate world and have helped them discover their strengths that in some cases were invisible to them and were critical for their career development and success. The joy that people feel, when they discover their strengths and the possibilities for themselves, is priceless. Pursuing success should never come at the expense of your health or another area of your life. You do not have to run at 100 miles an hour all day every day and run the risk of burnout, to be successful. There are more effective ways to optimise your performance and lead a more fulfilled and balanced life.

I will help you wake up that passion that has been inside of you and dormant for too long. Some may already know what their passion is, but do not know how to incorporate it into their lives. I can help you find a way. I strongly believe that when you find your passion, you will find your purpose. Both combined will result in optimal performance. When you start operating at a level you thought was impossible, that’s when you know that you have untapped your true potential.
